10g fibre | 20g protein per serving
Chocolate for breakfast? What's not to love!
If you're looking for a quick and easy summer breakfast that feels more like dessert, this Raspberry Chia Yoghurt with a chocolate topping is one to try.
One of the things I talk about regularly in clinic is the importance of getting enough fibre. Most of us aren't getting as much as we need, but reaching your daily intake can be much more achievable when you know which foods to include.
Raspberries are one of my favourite fruits for fibre, and when combined with chia seeds, this simple breakfast provides around 10g of fibre, roughly a third of your daily intake, alongside 20g of protein.
It's a great example of how you can make a few simple ingredients work harder nutritionally, without compromising on enjoyment.
Why fibre matters when trying to conceive
Fibre is an important part of a fertility-supportive diet and plays a role in digestive and metabolic health.
Getting enough fibre can help to:
Support healthy digestion and regular bowel movements
Support a healthy gut microbiome
Help maintain steady blood sugar levels
Support healthy hormone metabolism
Rather than thinking about fibre as something you need to calculate perfectly, I encourage focusing on adding more fibre-rich foods to your meals throughout the day.
Think berries, vegetables, legumes, wholegrains, nuts and seeds.
Why I love this breakfast
🍓 Raspberries provide fibre and antioxidants, including vitamin C and polyphenols.
🌱 Chia seeds are a great source of fibre, alongside healthy fats and minerals.
🥣 Greek yoghurt provides protein to make this breakfast more satisfying and help keep you feeling fuller for longer.
🍫 Dark chocolate adds a little bit of joy, as well as providing antioxidants and minerals such as magnesium.
The combination of protein, fibre and healthy fats makes this much more than just a sweet treat, it's a balanced breakfast that can help support sustained energy throughout the morning.
Ingredients
Serves 1
170g plain Greek yoghurt
10g chia seeds
50g raspberries
Squeeze of lemon juice
40g dark chocolate
Method
1. Make the yoghurt layer
Add the Greek yoghurt, lemon juice and chia seeds to a bowl.
Add the raspberries and gently mash them into the yoghurt until combined.
Use the back of a spoon to smooth the mixture into an even layer.
2. Add the chocolate
Melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler or microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each one.
Pour the melted chocolate over the yoghurt mixture and spread into an even layer.
3. Chill
Place in the fridge for 1-2 hours, or until the chocolate has set.
Then simply crack through that lovely chocolate layer and enjoy!
A simple way to increase your fibre intake
You don't need to overhaul your diet to eat more fibre.
Adding a handful of berries to breakfast, sprinkling chia or flaxseeds over yoghurt, choosing wholegrains and including plenty of vegetables throughout the day can all help you gradually increase your intake.
And remember, fibre is only one part of a nourishing fertility diet. It's the overall pattern of what you're eating consistently that matters most.
