🌿 My Natural Approach to Ageing

As a nutritionist, I’ve always been passionate about taking a natural approach to both diet and lifestyle - and that extends to how I support my body through the ageing process.

When I hit my late 30s, I started to notice the inevitable little changes - a few fine lines, wrinkles and grey hairs here and there. I’m sure many of you can relate! For me, this was the moment I decided to review my nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle habits from a preventative perspective rather than waiting until things became more noticeable.

Because botox and fillers aren’t an option when trying to conceive (not because I’m against them, but simply because they’re contraindicated for TTC), I knew I needed to find other ways to work with my body and hormones to support skin health, energy, and wellbeing.

Here are the natural strategies that form my routine:

💧 Collagen & Hydration

I have been supplementing with collagen for a few years now, but more recently I have added Primabiotic Collagen and Hyaluron daily to support my skin barrier, maintain hydration from within, and help reduce oxidative stress. Collagen is a structural protein that naturally declines with age, so topping up supports elasticity and fine lines. A new addition for me - Hyaluronic acid is incredible for locking in hydration, giving skin that plump, nourished feel.

Alongside this, I aim for 2-3L of fluids per day - filtered water, herbal teas, and mineral-rich bone broth are my go-tos. Hydration makes such a difference to energy levels, digestion, and skin health.

🥑 Healthy Fats Every Day

I never skimp on healthy fats. Olive oil, nuts, and seeds feature daily, with oily fish twice a week and avocado a couple of times per week too. These are not only amazing for skin health and hormone balance but also bring anti-inflammatory benefits that support whole-body ageing.

🥗 Mediterranean-Inspired Eating

I follow a Mediterranean-style diet - lots of colour on my plate, with fruits, vegetables, legumes, and wholegrains forming the base. Eating the rainbow means I’m flooding my body with antioxidants, fibre, and polyphenols to support healthy ageing from the inside out.

🙏 Lifestyle Foundations

Of course, it’s not just about food. I make sure to cover the lifestyle basics:

  • Exercise 4-5 times per week (a mix of strength and gentle movement I enjoy).

  • Time outdoors - fresh air and daylight are so underrated for mental and physical health.

  • Sleep - still a work in progress, but I prioritise rest as much as possible because of its impact on hormones, energy, and skin.

💡 Red Light Therapy

More recently, I’ve added a red-light therapy mask to my toolkit, which supports collagen production, skin healing, and reduced inflammation. It’s become part of my evening self-care ritual.

🌸 Final Thoughts

For me, ageing is about supporting my body to do what it’s designed to do - but with a little extra nourishment and care along the way. Instead of fighting against my hormones and natural changes, I focus on working with them through nutrition, supplementation, and sustainable lifestyle practices.

If you’re also on this journey, remember - small, consistent habits really add up.
