A Gentle January While TTC: Alcohol-Free Options I Love

January can feel like a strange month when you’re trying to conceive (TTC). After the busyness of December, it often brings a slower pace, fewer social plans and a natural moment to reset - but when TTC is already part of your everyday life, it’s not about starting over, it’s about continuing with what already supports you.

Choosing to go alcohol-free (or simply pulling back) in January is one of those choices that can feel both practical and emotional. I know this because I’ve been there myself.

I want you to hear this clearly:

Please don’t feel shy or awkward about going alcohol-free. It’s far more common now than it used to be - and I am proudly flying the sober flag over here and rooting for you too.

Why Going Alcohol-Free Can Support TTC

When you’re TTC, reducing or removing alcohol can be a gentle but powerful way to support:

  • Hormone balance

  • Egg and sperm quality

  • Liver health (key for hormone detoxification)

  • Sleep and energy levels

January often feels like the perfect time to do this. Social diaries tend to quieten down, there’s less pressure around drinking, and many of us naturally feel drawn to hibernation, nourishment and routine.

A Simple Tip That Makes It Easier

One of my biggest tips for January (and beyond) is this:

💡 Take your own

Whether you’re heading to a friend’s house, a family meal or even just stocking your fridge at home, having alcohol-free options you actually enjoy makes all the difference.

You don’t have to explain yourself. You don’t have to settle for something you don’t like . And you don’t have to feel left out.

And trust me when I say this - I’ve tried them ALL.

Below are my favourite alcohol-free options that feel grown-up, satisfying and supportive during January.

My Favourite Alcohol-Free Drinks for January

These are all fertility-nutritionist approved and perfect if you’re easing into a slower, more intentional month.

🌿 Motherroot

Made with whole ingredients including fiery ginger and apple cider vinegar, Motherroot really packs a punch. It also supports healthy digestion - something many of us appreciate after December.

How I serve it: With soda water or tonic and plenty of ice.

Where to buy: Find it on The Natural Dispensary, where you can save 10% using my code JENWAL10

🍊 Botivo

A beautifully crafted botanical aperitivo, handmade in small batches with apple cider vinegar, orange zest, fresh rosemary, thyme and wildflower honey.

This one feels like a real ritual drink - complex, warming and grounding.

How I serve it: With soda or sparkling water and an orange slice.

Where to buy: Buy direct from Botivo or find it in Waitrose or on Ocado. I’ve also seen this in lots of my favourite restaurants including Agora (Borough Market), The Kite (Hitchin), Caravan and Granger and Co  (both have multiple sites in London) plus many more.

🌊 Pentire Coastal Spritz

With blood orange (very January-coded), sea rosemary and oakwood, this is one of my go-to options when I want something refreshing but still special.

How I serve it: With tonic or soda, a wedge of orange and a sprig of rosemary or bay leaf.

Where to buy: Buy direct from Pentire for bundle deals, Waitrose, Ocado, and in many of the restaurants you will also find Botivo!

🍾 REAL Sparkling Wines

If you still want something celebratory without the alcohol, REAL sparkling wines are a brilliant option.

Whether you prefer rosé or classic, they offer a well-rounded, grown-up flavour. The rosé is my favourite - buttery, fresh berry notes with a subtle vanilla-oak finish.

Where to buy: Buy direct at REAL or via supermarkets including Ocado, Waitrose & Sainsburys..

🌙 TRIP Magnesium Mindful Blends

If alcohol-free alternatives aren’t really your thing, TRIP Mindful Blends can be a lovely January option.

They contain magnesium, along with ingredients like lion’s mane, ashwagandha and L-theanine to support calm and relaxation - ideal for winding down in the evenings.

Where to buy: I recommend signing up for a subscription directly at TRIP for the best savings.

🥂 Fix8 Water Kefir

A juicy, fruit-based sparkling drink packed with live cultures. I love the grapefruit and elderflower flavour for something light, refreshing and gut-friendly.

Where to buy: I buy this from Waitrose.

🍃 Jarr Kombucha

Naturally fermented organic kombucha with bold flavours and live cultures - perfect if you want to support your gut health while staying hangover-free.

I love serving these over ice in a fancy glass to make it feel more intentional.

Where to buy: I buy this directly from Jarr.

The Takeaway

January doesn’t need to be about restriction or pressure.

If you’re TTC, choosing alcohol-free options can be a supportive, empowering choice - one that fits easily with a slower, more nourishing start to the year.

Go gently. Take your own. And know that you’re doing enough.

With love,

Jen xx
